Using BIO-NOVON to increase the biobased content of products promotes a more natural carbon cycle. Bioplastics are made from plant materials that absorb CO₂ during growth. When these plastic products are used and eventually disposed of, the CO₂ released is roughly equal to what the plants absorbed, achieving carbon neutrality. This helps reduce atmospheric carbon accumulation and mitigates climate change, thereby supporting a more sustainable carbon cycle.

How it works
According to the “Bioplastics Introduction Roadmap” proposed by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, plants absorb CO₂ during growth to form carbohydrates, which are released back into the atmosphere upon combustion, achieving carbon neutrality. This leads to the following conclusions:
Biocarbon content ratio = Carbon dioxide reduction ratio

10% BIO-NOVON + 90% Fossil-based Polyethylene
Could reduce 10% x 95% = 9.5% CO₂
20% BIO-NOVON + 80% Fossil based polyethylene
Could reduce 20% x 95% =19% of CO₂
